Buckaroo Birkley's Birthday
For her fourth birthday, Birkley wanted a cowgirl party (what she really wanted was an event she could wear her boots to). Of all the parties I have planned, I think I enjoyed this one the most. The little cowgirls started by mining for diamonds. I put scoops of sand in their mining pans (paper plates with holes poked through them). They sifted and sorted. I hid silver sequins in the sand as "fool's diamonds." Several of the girls were able to recover the "real" diamonds. From there, we did the bandanna toss. I wrapped up some golf balls with bandannas and tied them with ribbon. The girls had to toss the bandannas into a cowboy hat. We played "Water the Horse" which is a relay game with water and a horse (did I really need to explain that???) Birkley opened presents and ate cake. The party ended with a cowgirl dance contest and a quick draw water gun fight. It was so hot...record book heat...95 degrees. We were boiling hot. The balloons I decorated the patio with lasted 5 minutes before they started popping...which just made my western theme that much more authentic. It sounded like a shootout at a saloon. All in all, Birkley told me it was the best day of her life about 50 times. I am so happy!
