Autumn Fun Run

The Children's Hospital in Huntsville has an annual Race to help support the hospital. I decided that this would be a great opportunity for the girls and me. Fallon has been loving to run the track at school, and she seems to have her daddy's genes when it comes to running and speed. Luckily, preschool and kinder run in the same race. Parents could run also as long as they didn't assist their children AND the kids have to run across the finish line themselves (parents follow a parallel path to the track at the end). Well, it was packed. I knew I would be holding Birkley's hand so I told Fallon that she should run ahead at her speed and Birks and I would always be behind her. They had a lot of support staff and a local high school track team shadowed the runners. When the whistle blew, Fallon was off. I was amazed! Her form and speed were beyond her years...she looked like she had run a million races! Birks an I were off to a great start, too. Then, OH NO, up ahead I see Fallon off to the side crying with a high school helper. No one had to tell me what I already knew: she was separated from us by about a zillion people and she panicked. Like an after school special from my childhood I was yelling, "Go Fallon! I am with you! I will aways be behind you! Mommy will always be with you!" She turned tail and ran! I am telling you, it was like a slow-motion Oscar clip. Meanwhile, Birks ran non-stop. She was a crowd favorite...they really cheered her on. Halfway through, she wanted to run by herself and crossed the finish line herself.
After the race, we picked up our ribbons, t-shirts, and BLUE Gatorade. About to leave, Fallon says, "Mommy, a lady took my sticker from my back and handed me a sticker that said nine." Well, her race sticker was missing, but I didn't see anything else. I decided to head to the Awards Pavilion...I had a feeling I might be needing to be there. Sure enough, even after pausing in the race, Fallon finished 9th! She ran 1 mile in 10.13 minutes!
Fun Night. Watching the news later; Birks had a lot of news cameras on her :)
